Hello there!
I’m Mathilde, maker of Heartmade Art for Lovely People. Living and working between the UK, France and the Netherlands, and moving so often that we don’t even bother to unpack the boxes anymore. I share my relatively chaotic life with two house gnomes, one Nice French Hubbie (which is enough, really), and a varying quantity of neighbourhood cats and art supplies.
I’m that mum who always arrives late at the school gate, hair a mess, clothes covered in paint, grabs two children, stashes them in the car, only once at home to realise they’re not the right kids. Should have known: much too clean, matching socks – alert, alert!
Loving life to bits. Dreaming of a house by the sea. In real life, wading through heaps of porridge daily. Always struggling with a lack of time, sometimes struggling with my paintings too. Most often though so utterly happy that you’ll literally find me dancing around in the studio. (Sense of rythm of the North, though. Can’t have it all…)

Artist Statement
I’ve been painting ever since I was born. At first with yoghurt, bananas and broccoli… let’s call it my Baby Art Brut period. Nowadays, formally trained at the Bordeaux School of Fine Arts, things have got slightly more serious. I bridge a solid knowledge of painting techniques with a highly personal signature style and a refreshing choice of topics. This leads to bright and quirky paintings which I hope will make your heart sing regardless whether you’re three years old or ninety seven.
I am definitely no ‘on demand’ artist. Yup, been there, done that, but I feel I make my best work when I can paint what naturally raises up in my soul.
I create universes which bring you a fresh breeze and room to breathe. Every painting offers several inherent stories. Up to you though to decide which one you choose to read today.
You’d probably guessed already, but boy, do I love colour. You’ll find this reflected in a chromatic range which is typical for my work. (I do try black sometimes. Seriously. Just look around J .) Layer after layer of colour, sometimes up to over thirty for a single painting. The magic of creating a whole world with some brushes and paint just never wears off for me. And I sincerely hope that some of that magic will sparkle on to you when wandering around in my universe.

Je suis Mathilde, créatrice d’art ‘Fait Cœur’ pour gens chouettes (c’est vous!). Naviguant entre la France, les Pays- Bas et l’Angleterre, on déménage tellement souvent que cela fait longtemps que je ne défais plus les cartons… sauf ceux avec ma peinture, bien sûr ! Je partage ma vie avec deux lutins, un Grand Amour, et une quantité variable de chats du voisinage.
Moi, c’est cette maman qui arrive systématiquement en retard à la sortie de l’école, cheveux en pagaille et vêtements couverts de peinture. Qui vite – vite pioche deux pitchouns dans la foule, speede a la maison, pour se rendre compte seulement une fois là- bas que au fait, euh… les gamins, ce n’etaient pas les bons. D’ailleurs j’aurais pu savoir. Beaucoup trop propres, chaussettes assorties… alerte, alerte!
Dans mes rêves, on habite tous au bord de mer avec les vagues comme compagnons au quotidien. Dans la vraie vie, je négocie mon chemin plutôt à travers porridge, Playmobil et bouts de Lego Très Importants. Le manque de temps est récurrent, tout comme les fous rires. Non, la maison n’est pas toujours nickel. Mais on y vit pour de vrai, et mes peintures aussi.

Mon travail
Je peins depuis que je suis née, ou presque. D’abord avec du yaourt et de la purée de banane (merci maman !), aujourd’hui avec du matériel légèrement plus sophistique. Dans mon travail, je combine des techniques traditionnelles avec une signature très personnelle et un choix de sujets hors du commun. Résultat: des tableaux reconnaissables a trois kilomètres à la ronde, qui vous mettent de vraiment bonne humeur, que vous ayez 3 ans ou 93….
Et vous l’aviez peut-être deviné, mais qu’est ce que j aime la couleur! Pendant ma formation aux Beaux Arts de Bordeaux, on faisait des d’exercices de melanges de couleur pendant des semaines entières. A l’époque cela me semblait interminable, mais aujourd’hui ces mélanges sont l une des piliers de mon travail… Même maintenant, je me sers souvent juste des primaires. Cela reste magique de voir les nuances apparaitre. Toujours.
